The Conversations That Matter 15th Birthday Cake

5 Truths Have Guided the Last 15 Years

Today, we celebrate The Conversations That Matter turning 15!  And, like every milestone in my life, I like to pause, reflect, and honor the journey.

The business started when I realized I couldn’t continue where I was, and I certainly couldn’t pretend to not hear the whispers or notice the nudges that I was made for more.  This business has been built with the hands of God wrapped around it daily. Protecting the conversations and helping me create a space of safety, trust, and accepting people where they’re at.

I am so grateful for every one of you who have been a part of this journey in some way – colleagues, team members, clients, collaborators.  And especially to my family – Bruce, Ellie & Caroline – you have been the backbone of this success – believing in me, my crazy pursuits, and helping me dig deep and always reminding me of my purpose. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

So after 15 years, 200+ amazing clients, hundreds of teams and leaders, hundreds of reams of paper, thousands of Sharpies, dozens of journals, and lots of coffee, these 5 truths have guided the journey:

  1. Success happens when you are in action. Momentum is one of the key components that has driven the business. There is nothing more powerful to an entrepreneur than getting out there, taking risks, saying yes to opportunities, finding out who you are and what you’re made of.  Success happens when you’re in motion, not in your head.
  2. Never forget where you came from. I was blessed with a social butterfly Dad and a Mom whose love language is hosting and making amazing homemade meals.  I was taught to greet everyone with kindness and to look beyond what I see. To be in conversation long enough to really know someone and to always give what God has given you. My parents were my first models of what kindness and service really looked like.  It is not lost on me that these early lessons became part of the fabric of this business and how we create “we’ve been waiting for you” moments.
  3. Do what’s right for the client.  I go into every engagement with an agenda that is about 80% on point – realizing that I really don’t know how it’s going to play out until I’m in the room, feeling the energy, hearing what people are sharing and what they’re not saying.  I love dancing with whatever shows up because I’ve been practicing the tension of being fully prepared and not being prepared enough – being vulnerable to whatever is most needed at that moment and trusting that the right words, tone, and intention will be exactly what is needed. This approach has never failed me.
  4. Embrace your genius, unapologetically.  I have been able to hear the need, ask a lot of questions, listen deeply and quickly imagine what an easy-to-apply tool could look like for my clients.  I’ve learned to embrace this unique part of me and strive to stay healthy to be fueled by the excitement of building tools that give people more clarity, confidence, and courage. Over dozens of tools have been released into the world, and I am grateful that I didn’t hold back, allowing me to bring that part of myself further into my work.
  5. Resiliency is a daily practice. Being clear about my purpose is a constant reminder to trust my intuition and be okay with taking risks. Other than marriage and becoming a parent, you will never learn as much about yourself as when you are building your own business. I’ve had to study myself as much as I study my clients to be sure I can show up whole and be ready for what they need. I’m always learning, and it’s in the work that I have learned the most about myself and what I’m capable of. Having clients who inspire and encourage allows me to bring my full self into every engagement, and it’s because of you that I know in many ways, we’re just getting started.

A 30-Day Journey Inward

To celebrate 15 years of The Conversations That Matter, I created something special: a 30-day reflection journal built around the five truths that have shaped my work and my life.

Inside, you’ll find simple, meaningful daily prompts designed to help you slow down, reconnect with your purpose, and bring more intention into your leadership and your day-to-day life.

Each week explores one of the Five Truths:

  1. Success Happens in Action
  2. Never Forget Where You Came From
  3. Do What’s Right for the Client
  4. Embrace Your Genius
  5. Resiliency Is a Daily Practice

If you’ve been craving clarity, momentum, or a deeper connection to what matters most, this guide is a beautiful place to start.
